8 benches give Rs 7 cr relief in SBS Nagar

Under the guidance of the National Legal Services Authority and Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SBS Nagar, a National Lok Adalat was held on Saturday at the District Court Complex, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, and Sub-Division Court, Tehsil Balachaur. The event took place under the supervision of Dr Amandeep, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), SBS Nagar.

District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson of DLSA, Priya Sood, personally reviewed all the benches at the Lok Adalat. A total of eight benches were constituted for the event — six at the District Court Complex in SBS Nagar and two at the Sub-Division Court in Balachaur. During the proceedings, 5,387 cases were taken up, out of which 4,044 were successfully settled with mutual consent, resulting in awards worth over Rs 7 crore.

Several dignitaries presided over the benches, including Chairman of the Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services) Ashok Kapoor, Additional District and Sessions Judge Karunesh Kumar, Principal Judge of the Family Court Baljinder Singh Maan, Civil Judge (Senior Division) Aparajita Joshi, Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division) Kompal Dhanjal, Civil Judge (Junior Division) Tushar Kaur Thind, Additional Civil Judge (Senior Division) Lovjinder Kaur, and Civil Judge (Junior Division) Papneet.

Legal professionals and representatives from various organisations played a vital role in ensuring the success of the Lok Adalat. Advocates Jashandeep, Sapna Jaggi, Dilpreet Kaur, Baljit Kaur, Jyoti Bhatia, Mandeep Singh, and Deepak Sharma, along with Dinesh Bhardwaj (Member, Permanent Lok Adalat), Satnam Singh, Shivani (Member, Permanent Lok Adalat), and nominated members of DLSA such as Ruby, JS Giddha (Upkar NGO), Ratan Jain (Doaba Sewa Samiti NGO), Gurmukh Singh Sandhu (Lion Club NGO), Tarsem Singh Pathlawa (Ek Noor Sewa Sanstha), and Vikram Jeet Singh (Manager, BDC Blood Center Nawanshahr NGO) were present at the event.

Judge Priya Sood emphasised that the primary objective of the National Lok Adalat is to facilitate amicable settlements between disputing parties through mutual agreement. This approach not only saves time and money but also helps reduce hostility and fosters harmony among people. She urged the public to take full advantage of such Lok Adalats, which are organised periodically to provide swift and effective dispute resolution.
