Heading towards a smooth and hassle-free completion of the paddy procurement season, the administration has so far procured 85 per cent of the total paddy in the district.
While presiding over a meeting to review the ongoing procurement at his office in the District Administrative Complex here, the Deputy Commissioner VK Sharma said so far 8.41 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, which was around 85 per cent of the total expected paddy, has been procured in grain markets across the district.
He said of this, around 7.75 lakh metric tonnes of paddy purchased till November 7 had been lifted from the mandis which was over 90 per cent of the total paddy purchased. Sharma reiterated that on the directions of the state government, the district administration was firmly committed for completing the procurement and lifting without any inconvenience to farmers.
The DC said along with the on-the-spot procurement of the grains, thrust was also been laid on timely payment to farmers and lifting of grains within 48 hours. He said around 78 mandis/purchase centres had been notified for the procurement of paddy in the district, which were allotted to procurement agencies for lifting of the grains.
He said the procurement agencies had been directed to ensure prompt payment to the farmers and lifting of the grains within 48 hours of procurement, as per the policy of the state government. — TNS
