9-year-old girl raped, 1 held

Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested a man, identified as Jagwinder, alias Jugnu, a resident of Fatehpur village, on the charge of raping a nine-year-old girl. The suspect was caught committing the crime in the fields. The motorcycle of the suspect has also been impounded. A case under Sections 376, 363 and 522 of the IPC and Section 8 of POSCO Act, 2012, has been registered against the suspect. OC

Attempt to lift 8-month-old girl 

Phagwara: Three unidentified miscreants made an attempt to lift an eight-month-old girl from her mother in a posh locality of Hargobind Nagar in front of the BJP office this afternoon. Manju Devi, a migrant from Bihar, who works as a domestic help, was going to pick her elder son from his school when two youths on a car and one on a two-wheeler attempted to take away her daughter. It was only after Manju raised an alarm that the unidentified men fled from the spot. OC

Burglars flee with Rs 1L goods

Phagwara: A sanitary shop was reportedly burgled on Palahai Road here on Monday night. Shop owner Vikrant Anand, a resident of Jalandhar, said the burglars had entered his shop after breaking the locks. The miscreants took away sanitary goods worth around Rs 1 lakh besides cash amounting to Rs 5,000. A case has been registered under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC. OC

One booked for abducting girl

Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by Sonia, a resident of Bhagatpura locality, here, the police have registered a case under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC against an unidentified person for allegedly abducting her daughter on the pretext of marriage. The girl is missing since October 10. Investigation is underway in the matter. OC
