Hoshiarpur, July 9

Angry villagers and family members blocked the Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar road at Adda Nasrala and staged a protest against the police inaction in the murder case of former sarpanch Surjit Singh Ankhi of Meghowal Ganjian village 9 months ago.

Slogans were raised against the state government and the police during the protest. Due to this, the Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar road remained closed for about 7 hours from 10 am to 5 pm and people commuting between Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur faced a tough time.

Surjit Singh Ankhi's brother Jagtar Singh, wife Satnam Kaur, Sarpanch Balraj Singh Khanpur Thiara, Punjab Pradesh BJP Yuva Morcha leader Prashant Gambhir, president SC Morcha Jalandhar Bhupinder Singh, SAD (A) leader Gurnam Singh Singriwala, Amit Kumar Meghowal, Gurdev Singh Fauji, Pritam Singh Pita etc. demanded that a SIT should be formed by appointing three senior police officers to investigate the case and the truth should be brought out by solving the case within 2 months. On the assurance of SP Manoj Kumar, the protesters ended the dharna.
