In a biggest contribution so far for Sainik School, Kapurthala, its US-based alumnus, during his recent visit to the campus, announced to dole out Rs 1 crore from his personal account for the repair and uplift of the building.

Having passed out from here in 1977, Anurag Kumar is currently working as a Senior Executive Officer in a software company in Texas. Kumar says he had a close association with the school since his father SN Agrawal was also a faculty member in the same campus from 1966-93.

“Since the school provides accommodation to its staff, we had a house within the compound,” he shared.

Kumar said he visited the campus recently and spent time there with his daughter.

“Having interacted with the principal, headmaster and students there, I realised that the school needs support from old students like me. So, I have decided that I will be giving out Rs 10 lakh each year for a span of 10 years. This will be a humble support from my side. I will also be contacting other alumni from the school settled in the US and urge them to come forward for the cause,” he said.

Having graduated from IIT-Delhi in 1982, Kumar, who hails from Dehradun, said: “I went around classrooms and found that a part of the building was crumbling. The school backyard, which was a beautiful area, needs to be renovated. One of the two swimming pools, tennis courts and badminton hall are not in a good shape”.
