Jalandhar, November 16

Former Mayor Suresh Sehgal, who had got interim relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court in an assault case, on Friday said he had always fought against corruption and would continue to do so.

Family members and supporters welcomed Sehgal with garlands when he reached home.

Former Mayor Sehgal had sparked a row by publicly assaulting a building inspector and hurling abuses at him.

While talking to mediapersons about the incident, Sehgal said he had gone to the spot after the owner of the house called him up.

Sehgal added that when he reached the spot, he asked building inspector Dinesh Joshi that why was he targeting the family even when they had given the replies to the notices sent by the department.

“He was harassing the family by taking bribe. When I questioned his intentions, he also hurled abuses at me and foul-mouthed me. The building inspector had taken bribe from the family. After I countered him, he indulged in a scuffle and in order to stop him, I pushed him back,” said Sehgal.

Sehgal also questioned the police for lodging an FIR after seeing a video.

“The police did not listen to us or investigate the actual matter. My family was harassed all these days,” he added.
