Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Sodhi on Friday said the state players who had won medals in the Asian Games would be given handsome prize money at a function to be held in Chandigarh on September 27.

The minister made the announcement after inaugurating the 67th All-India Police Hockey Tournament here on Friday. “The prize money will be higher than that of neighboring states. I will announce the amount later,” the Sports Minister added.

He also announced a facelift of the PAP Sports complex to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure and training facilities to the budding players of the region.

Addressing the gathering here, the minister said an ultra modern synthetic athletic track would come up at the complex to further boost up track and field sports.

He also announced to provide mats for various games, including judo, wrestling and wushu, in the complex. Sodhi also announced to set up a modern physiotherapy centre inside the complex for imparting quality health services to the players.
