Dumeli said Punjab’s selection trials were conducted on November 26 at Polo Ground, Patiala, where he cleared the qualifying rounds. He had secured his place to compete in the 200m and 400m events, scheduled from December 13 to 15 at the Patliputra Sports Complex, Kankarbagh, Patna.

Dumeli said he aimed to bring laurels to Punjab and his department by performing strongly at the national meet. His sporting résumé extends beyond athletics — he represented Punjab as a goalkeeper in the 2023-24 All-India Civil Services Football Championship held in Bhubaneswar (Odisha), where the state team finished fourth.
