Athletes Gurindervir, Twinkle bring laurels to Jalandhar city

Continuing to bring glory in international track events, Jalandhar athletes Gurindervir Singh and Twinkle Chaudhary have been showing ace performance.

Gurindervir was in the men’s 100m relay at the Taiwan Open Athletics quartet for 4x100 m relay race that won gold medal with a time of 38.75 seconds. He along with Animesh Kujur, Manikanta Hoblidhar and Amlan Borgohain had participated in the race. Gurindervir was the first to run among the four and take the lead from the very start. Likewise, Twinkle Chaudhary bagged silver in women's 800m event with a timing of 2:06.96s at the same athletics championship in Taipei.

Both athletes have been practising under coach Sarabjit Happy bringing a proud moment for him. "The success of these two athletes has been really encouraging, especially for the younger. The parents of these children come to us and tell us that they should be groomed the way we have trained Gurindervir and Twinkle. We then share with them the story of determination, grit and hard work put in by both our stars", he said.

The coach said both athletes have a long way to go. Twinkle is expected to return tomorrow. She has been selected as coach in the Punjab Sports Department and shall be joining her new post. She has been vying for selection in two more international events to be held in Switzerland and France, said Happy.

Gurindervir, who had recently clocked the shortest time of 10.20 seconds by any athlete in India in finishing 100 m race at Indian Grand Prix in Bengaluru, shall be taking part in the World University Athletics scheduled for the next month in Germany. The 24-year-old hails from Patial village of Bhogpur.
