Jalandhar, February 16

Deputy Commissioner-cum-president of Jalandhar Badminton Association Varinder Kumar Sharma has pulled up Honorary Secretary of the Punjab Badminton Association, Rajinder Kalsi, for not keeping him in the loop for holding an executive meeting in city today.

Since the Jalandhar Badminton Association stands dissolved for three months and the administration has taken over it till the elections, the Deputy Commissioner expressed dismay to Kalsi saying that he got to know about the meeting convened by him via a WhatsApp communication.

“I received an invitation letter regarding the meeting on WhatsApp from another contact”, he shot off a letter to him last evening.

Objecting to having not been informed, he said: “It is not appreciable on your part to have not apprised me of the meeting. I hope this act of omission will not be repeated. I appoint two nominees Rakesh Khanna and Naresh Budhia to attend the meeting.”

In today’s meeting, some members objected to the putting up of minutes of the last meeting held in 2015. The members alleged that they did not even remember what happened more than three years ago.

IAS officers Ashok Gupta and Varun Roojam chaired the meeting as president of the Punjab Badminton Association and vice-president, respectively. After the meeting, Gupta said, “Election to the state body of the game will be held a month later on February 16 or 17. We will decide the venue later.”

Asked about the ongoing controversies related to the district body, he said: “I told the members that I will not like to discuss any controversial issue in the wake of Pulwama tragedy. We will hear that out sometime later.”
