Cheema, while speaking in reaction to BJP leader and former Congressman Capt Amarinder Singh's statement batting for an Akali-BJP alliance in state, had termed the claims a sign for various formerly 'corrupt' entities in the state to get together on a single platform, yet again.
Speaking to the media in Jalandhar, Sampla, while addressing Cheema, said the leader had delved into a 20-minute history lesson, instead of mentioning the corruption in his own party during the four-year tenure.
Addressing Cheema, Sampla said, "The BJP and its high command is perfectly capable of deciding its own future in the state, it doesn't need your advice."
Addressing mediapersons at Punjab Press Club, Jalandhar, Sampla said, "Just before Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections, Cheema, instead of counting his own government's mis-governance, has rather delivered a lecture on 25 years of political history of the state. He had nothing to say. He seems to have forgotten his own party's deeds. It is clear that the Aam Aadmi Party government has no major achievements to talk of."
Sampla, was accompanied by district BJP president Sushil Sharma, former MLA Jagbir Brar, among others.
Countering Cheema's claims, Sampla said BJP has gone it alone in numerous elections in the state and the party was capable and ready to contest 117 Assembly seats. He said from the 2022 elections to 2024 LS elections, the BJP had always been contesting polls on its own strength, including the upcoming Zila Parishad and Block Samiti polls. He said the party will fight the 2027 elections on its own.
