Ludhiana man held for assault

Phagwara: The police have arrested a Ludhiana villager on the charge of assaulting a villager. The accused has identified as Bikramjit Singh of Parjian Kalan village in Ludhiana, and his accomplices. Gurcharan Singh of Gounsuwal village had complained to the police that the accused and his four accomplices had attacked him on May 11, seriously injuring and threatened him with dire consequences brandishing firearms. A case was registered against the accused. oc

Murder accused yet to be held

Phagwara: The police have yet to arrest two murder accused, who have been on the run for 22 years. They had allegedly murdered a local jeweller Mimik. Janak Raj of Sufi Mohalla, Railway Road, Nakodar, who was employed at a jewellery shop, along with his accomplice Sonu of Ferozepur, were declared proclaimed offenders. The trial court had, however, acquitted one of their accomplices. Janak had a scuffle with Mimik and his father in January 2002 after which Janak and his accomplices attacked them with knives. Mimik was declared dead at a hospital. oc

house burgled, Rs 47,000 stolen

Phagwara: Miscreants reportedly burgled a house in Onkar Nagar in Phagwara last night. The woman Baljit Kaur told the police that the burglars entered the house after breaking the locks and took away Rs 47,000 in cash after ransacking the house. The police have registered a case. oc

Phagwara: The police have booked villagers for burning paddy stubble. SHO Yadwinder Singh said the police had received online complaints of burning paddy stubble at Sajanwal village. The SHO said cases have been registered against the unidentified suspects. oc
