Four people were killed and 11 injured in a bus collision with a tractor-trolley on the Jalandhar-Jammu highway in the early hours of Monday.
The accident occurred near Jallowal.
The four deceased in the incident include the bus driver and three passengers.
The deceased have been identified as bus driver Satinder Singh, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir; passengers Kuldeep Singh and Gurbachan Singh, father and son, residents of Delhi; and Varinder Pal Singh, a resident of Phallewal village in Machiwara, Ludhiana.
The bus was traveling from Jalandhar and upon reaching Kala Bakra, it collided with a tractor-trolley laden with bricks on the highway.
The impact of the crash was so severe that the entire brick-trolley was overturned.
Teams from the SSF and Bhogpur police rushed to the scene. SSF incharge Randhir Singh and Bhogpur SHO Yadvinder Singh arrived at the accident site. While traffic was blocked on the highway due to the crash for some time in the morning, officials cleared the site and resumed traffic.
SSF officials rescued the passengers, some of whom had to be extracted using JCBs. The bodies of the deceased also had to be removed with the help of JCBs. The 11 people injured in the accident include three migrant laborers who were riding the tractor-trolley.
All the injured were transported to various hospitals, including the civil hospital in Jalandhar, where they are currently receiving treatment. The driver of the trolley, Parvinder Singh, also sustained leg injuries.
ASI Karnail Singh, in charge of the Pachranga police station, said, "The accident occurred at approximately 5:30 am, and the SSG along with our teams promptly retrieved all passengers. They have been admitted to various hospitals in Jalandhar. Highway traffic has resumed. While most of those injured are currently in a state of shock, their statements will be taken soon."
