Charted Accountant Rajjiv Singhi, who is one of the 14 accused in the multi-crore bank fraud case, surrendered before the court of the Kapurthala CJM on Friday.

Singhi, who was assistant general manager in the SBI when the case was filed in 2014, surrendered after 4.30 pm. He was sent to 14-day police remand.

Proclamation proceedings against Singhi and four of his other SBI colleagues were initiated by the court of the Kapurthala CJM under Sections 82 and 83 of the CrPC in August 2018, which asked them to appear in the court.

While Singhi had approached the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail in the case, the apex court dismissed his bail plea following which the complainant filed an application with the court of Kapurthala CJM seeking requisite action against him.

Meanwhile, he had also filed a plea seeking anticipatory bail in the court of the Additional Sessions Judge, Kapurthala, on January 28, which was also dismissed.

The suspended proclamation proceedings against him were eventually re-initiated in December last year.

As many as nine former bank officials — five of the SBI, three of the Kotak Mahindra bank and one of Axis Bank — have got bail in the case. The next date of hearing in the case is March 2.
