Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya has achieved a remarkable feat by setting a record for the maximum number of drawings of the national bird of India, peacock. The achievement was officially recognised by the India Book of Records (IBR). This event was led by the PG Department of Fashion Designing and PG Department of Fine Arts. On this occasion, a total of 467 students made 2,762 peacock drawings in 70 minutes on cotton stationery kit. Each drawing was unique. "Through this record-setting attempt, we hope to ignite a sense of pride and responsibility towards our nation’s heritage", said Principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi as she lauded the efforts of Dr Harpreet Kaur, Head of PG Department of Fashion Designing, Dr Amarjot, Tarandeep, Dr Simarjeet and Yogeshwar Hans. Dr Pankaj Sital, Adjudicator of India Book of Records, was present to oversee the proceedings and verify the number of drawings submitted.

High admission rate recorded

Jalandhar: As the admission tally of almost all colleges remained high this time because of fewer students being able to move to Canada, St Soldier group of Institutions also registered 6,000 plus first year admissions in various courses in different colleges. The college claims to have managed over 500 more admissions than the previous academic year. Vice Chairperson Sangeeta Chopra said, “We had a record number of admissions this year," Managing Director Manhar Arora said the college had filled all seats in its law, pharmacy, nursing, hotel management and journalism courses,besides the BBA, BCA, BCom and BPT courses.

Radiant Robes contest

Jalandhar: Ivy World School organised 'Radiant Robes Competition'. Students participated in a fancy dress competition that combined learning and fun, while developing good communication skills and giving them a chance to speak confidently in front of their own classmates. Students dressed up as fashionistas, representing a variety of themes such as heritage, technology and cultures to compete in a vibrant fancy dress event. The students were excited to utilise the platform and speak. Director Aditi Vasal threw more light and expressed a deep insight about the purpose of such competitions.

28th Athletic Meet winners

Jalandhar: The students of State Public School, Jalandhar Cantt, have made their school proud by securing a remarkable victory in the 28th Athletic Meet 2024, organised by CBSE at Pratap World School, Pathankot. Among the winners, Aman Kumar Singh secured the first place in under-14 800-m race and he also won the second place in the under-14 long jump competition. Additionally, Rakhi Kumari secured the second place in the javelin throw and Manpreet Singh stood second in under-17 5,000-m race. Aman Kumar Singh has qualified for the nationals for both the 800-m race and long jump, while Rakhi Kumari has qualified in the javelin throw. Also, Manpreet Singh has qualified for the nationals. The nationals will be be held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, from October 6 to 10. Principal Savina Bahl congratulated the students on their success and wished them luck for their future endeavours.

New students welcomed

Jalandhar: Innocent Hearts College of Education welcomed the new batch of BEd with a prayer ceremony to seek the blessings of the almighty and to initiate the session with optimistic ambience. This was followed by an orientation programme in which the newcomers were acquainted with the current rules, regulations and curriculum of the BEd course. Principal Arjinder Singh addressed the novices by welcoming them, briefed them about the college governing body, the history of the college and various clubs and committees run by the college. He introduced the faculty members to the newly-admitted students and also discussed the scheme of study of the two-year BEd training programme. He added that last year, the GNDU has converted the marks system into credit-based grading system (CBGS) for the BEd course and in the upcoming session (2024-2026), there are modifications in the maximum mark scores in some subjects. The modifications in the courses syllabus were discussed in detail by Assistant Professor Tarunjyoti Kaur.

World Ozone Day

Jalandhar: Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya marked World Ozone Day 2024. The event themed 'Serving Green to Blue Ozone' was organised by the DD Pant Botanical Society and featured a series of exciting competitions that fostered creativity and environmental consciousness among the students. Over 100 enthusiastic participants showcased their talents through slogan writing, poster making and fuel-less cooking competitions, all with the shared goal of protecting the ozone layer. Principal Ajay Sareen urged students to become green ambassadors of HMV, while Dr Anjana Bhatia, Head of the Department, encouraged them to adopt a sustainable lifestyle.

FRESHER’S PARTY ORGANISED

Jalandhar: A fresher's party was organised at Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women to welcome the new students in the college. The highlight of the programme was the dance performances by the students. Miss Fresher contest was another highlight of the day. Dr Navjot, Principal, welcomed the new comers and crowned the winners of the Miss Fresher contest. Priyanka was crowned as Miss Fresher, Diksha was adjudged the first runner-up, Khushi as second runner-up, Lakshmi as Miss Elegant and Isha as Miss Charming. The party was organised under the guidance of Manjit Kaur, Manjinder Kaur, Dr Sarabjit Kaur and Shivani Dhawan.
