Campus Notes: Lecture on traffic rules
Jalandhar: Traffic in-charge, Education Cell, Sub-inspector Sukhjinder Singh along with his team visited Seth Hukam Chand SD Public Senior Secondary School. He gave a lecture regarding traffic rules and guided the students about drug abuse and ill-effects of social media among teenagers. He also made the students aware about Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019. He also guided the drivers and conductors about the Safe School Vahan scheme. The cop sensitised the drivers and conductors about traffic rules and regulations. He told them to follow traffic rules stringently and keep the documents of the vehicle updated. Head Constable Jasvir Singh, Principal Priyanka Sharma and other teachers were also present on the occasion.
Trip to Wonderland
Jalandhar: To break the monotony of routine, CJS Public School planned an excursion to Wonderland for the students of classes from Nursery to UKG. They enjoyed different experiences like caterpillar ride, train ride etc. The students came back with pleasant memories. Chairperson Meena Mittal and Principal Dr Ravi Suta appreciated the blooming buds and said that we live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure.
Swachhata Hi Seva campaign
Jalandhar: The NSS Department of St Soldier Institute of Engineering and Technology organised the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS)-2024 campaign. The campaign was actively supported by National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers along with students from various academic programmes such as B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, B.Sc in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), B.Sc in Multimedia, and B. Vocational courses. The event involved a series of activities focusing on cleanliness, hygiene and sustainable practices. The students participated in community clean-up drives, awareness programmes and workshops on waste management. They engaged in cleaning public spaces, schools and nearby localities, emphasising the importance of keeping the environment clean and healthy. These activities not only enhanced the physical cleanliness of the area but also instilled a sense of responsibility and civic duty among the participants. College Group Chairman Anil Chopra encouraged them to participate in these activities.
GNDU holds orientation workshop
Amritsar: An orientation workshop for college eco-club in-charges from seven districts was organised by the College Development Council, Guru Nanak Dev University, under the Environment Education Programme (EEP). Under the programme, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has established 100 eco-clubs in colleges affiliated with GNDU. Led by Prof Dr Saroj Arora, Dean, College Development Council, and Dr Astha Bhatia, Assistant Professor, Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences (Coordinator), the workshop provided detailed guidance on EEP components and the registration process. Dr KS Bath and Dr Mandakini Thakur from PSCST reviewed the progress of the programme and conducted sessions on eco-club activity reporting. Resource persons, including Dr Anjana Bhatia from HMV College, Jalandhar, led brainstorming sessions on eco-skills development, waste reuse and entrepreneurship in environmental sustainability. Eco-club in-charges were encouraged to engage students in workshops, projects, exhibitions and nature camps to promote environmental consciousness and sustainable living.
Fresh chance for law aspirants
Amritsar: The Department of Higher Education, Government of Punjab, has given nod to in-person counselling directly by college/institution for admission to the three-year course at several government aided and un-aided law colleges in the state on the recommendations of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU). The committee constituted to conduct centralised online counselling had written to the Secretary, Higher Education, that 1,209 out of 2,342 seats remained vacant in 36 law colleges affiliated to four state-run universities even after three rounds of counselling. The university authorities today received a notification stating that the remaining seats in all colleges could now be filled through in-person counselling by the college/institute on the basis of merit in qualifying marks and other weightages. Dr Amit Kauts, coordinator, Online Counselling, GNDU, said, “The earlier notification stated that the seats in all law colleges were to be filled through centralised counselling. Even after three rounds of online counselling, a large number of seats remained vacant. Thus, we wrote to the Department of Higher Education in this regard. We have already uploaded the schedule for in-person counselling on the Punjab law admissions portal.” He said the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for colleges to conduct in-person counselling has also been uploaded on the website.
BBK DAV College makes clean sweep
Amritsar: Keeping pace with the winning streak of the institution, the students of BBK DAV College for Women, excelled in the GNDU examinations. Sonam Handa of Masters in Tourism Management Semester IV secured 86.5 per cent, Manpreet of BVoc Retail Semester IV 69.8 per cent, Jasmine of BVoc Retail-VI 71.6 per cent. Vanshika of Masters in Tourism Semester IV (70.25%), and Bhavika of B.Voc. Semester IV (67.2%) secured the second position in the university. Principal Dr Pushpinder Walia congratulated the students for their brilliant performance in the university exams and encouraged them to uphold their performance in future as well. Dr Simardeep, Dean, Academics, Kiran Gupta, Dean, Admissions, Dr Naresh, Head, PG Department of Travel and Tourism Management, and others congratulated the students.
Revel Dale pupils for Nat’l School Games
Amritsar: Four students of Revel Dale Public School, Attari, near the international border, who went to Bhubaneshwar to participate in national level hockey and volleyball tournament held by CISCE, have been selected by the School Games Federation of India for National School Games. Three students of the school; Jarmanveer Singh of Class 9, Bipanjot Singh of Class 8 and Sehajpreet Singh of Class 8 would be representing CISCE in U-14 hockey in National School Games. Yugyuvraj Singh of Class 10 would be participating in volleyball for the U-17 category. They are truly a strong source of inspiration for the school students and other youngsters living in the rural belt and border area, said principal Rajiv Arora.
