DSP Nakodar Onkar Singh Brar stated that according to details referenced in a complaint dated December 2, 2025 complainant Harnek Singh of village Chak Kurd alleged that multiple international numbers were used to contact him and demand Rs 50 lakh, coupled with threats of being shot if the money was not paid. The matter was initially submitted for verification to the cyber cell of district police, and the inquiry was conducted under the supervision of the Special Crime cell. Brar said based on statements and evidence reviewed during the probe, police authorities concluded that legal action was warranted. Subsequently, a case was recommended and registered against Paraminder Singh, originally from Hoshiarpur and currently residing in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, under Sections 308(4) and 351(3) of the Indian Penal Code.
