In the ongoing Zila Parishad elections where Phillaur is seeing a clash within the Congress, at least one of the candidates of Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi has had her way through.
Two nominees from the party had filed their papers to contest from the Zila Parishad zone of Bundala, including Harjinder Kaur and Bhalwinder Kaur. Both of them had attached the Congress symbols with their papers. Finally, it was conveyed to the Returning Officer of Zila Parishad, Amaninder Kaur Brar, that Bhalwinder Kaur be considered as the party nominee.
Notably, Bhalwinder Kaur has the support of Charanjit Channi's son Navjeet Singh. Navjeet is learnt to have got the ticket for the candidate through Punjab Youth Congress quota as the son of the candidate is PYC Punjab secretary Manpreet Singh Chadha. Harjinder Kaur, who had the support of Vikramjit Chaudhary, is learnt to have withdrawn her candidature. Vikramjit Chaudhary said, "I was supporting Harjinder Kaur since I felt that she was more deserving. But in the interest of the party, the candidate has withdrawn her papers."
There are reports that some other candidates of Block Samiti in Phillaur, who had the support of Navjeet but could not get the symbol, are contesting as Independents.
