Jalandhar, April 23
A day after having formally submitted his nomination papers for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat, sitting Congress MP and candidate Chaudhary Santokh Singh today put up a fresh set of papers making a correction in his affidavit.
In the papers that he submitted yesterday, Chaudhary perhaps missed having mentioned about a flat in the name of his wife as their immovable asset. The flat in Sector 47, Chandigarh, was mentioned in his papers that he had submitted as a candidate in the 2014 Lok Sabha poll. Its market value was then shown as Rs 80 lakh.
In the fresh papers that he submitted today, the flat has been added again and its value now is shown as Rs 70 lakh. As Chaudhary had been quizzed yesterday about no mention of the flat in papers this time, he had replied saying: “It surely would be there. Loans that are shown in the papers are for the same flat.”
Having rechecked later, he today chose to make correction in his papers.
Owing to deleting of flat in his assets yesterday, a drop of 11 per cent in his assets in five years was reflecting in his papers to which he had yesterday said the values of his properties had depreciated.
Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said: “Making a correction in papers within a stipulated time is allowed by the Election Commission.”
