Chess competition held

Jalandhar: To increase mental morale of the students, an inter-college chess championship was organised by the St Soldier Group of Institutions. Seven boys and four girls’ teams from St. Soldier pharmacy, agricultural, engineering, management, co-ed, polytechnic and law participated. In boys’ competition, teams of law college and engineering college played in the final round and in girls’ competition, teams of law and management played final match. The law college teams won both matches. While appreciating the game of students, chairman Anil Chopra said that in today’s time, the younger generation had become busy with their mobiles, laptops rather than playing in real, such efforts are very necessary to remove them from those things. He also said that the students, who would like to participate in the university games and shine the name of the institution, will be given full support by the institution for preparation and management will provide them scholarship. Sports director Manjeet Singh Dhall said that the response of the students in this tournament was very excellent and to encourage the students towards sports, other sports tournaments would also be organised in future.

Faculty development programme

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised week-long online national faculty development programme in collaboration with Guru Angad Dev Teaching Learning Centre, SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi, on the ‘Development of e-content’. More than 200 teachers from 18 states of India participated in this programme. Dr AK Bakshi, chairman, Guru Angad Dev Teaching Learning Centre, SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi, was the chief guest for the inaugural session. Dr Vimal Rarh, national co-ordinator, project head and joint director, Guru Angad Dev Teaching Learning Centre, was also present. In her address, Dr Vimal Rarh explained ways of generating e-content at national level. She also elaborated that for upgrading a teacher: faculty empowering workshops, preparation of teacher’s e-kit and multimedia enriched videos should be developed. Development of ICT skills and pedagogy for virtual and online teaching is the need of hour, she said. Dr Rarh divided teacher’s e-kit into four quadrants viz. teacher’s manual, teacher’s video for flipped class room, teacher’s assignment and teacher’s know more. Prof AK Bakshi gave a talk on ‘Digital transformation in higher education in India: Opportunities and challenges’. Dr Bakshi began his talk by stressing that education should motivate the students to think critically and instill logical reasoning in them. Prof Bakshi also acquainted all participants about the Swayam portal of Government of India in which any teacher or student can access course of any subject for digital learning. TNS
