The Adda Saran chowki in-charge was sent to police lines after he was accused of beating an old man from Bainchan village in front of his son and others in the chowki. The victim Ravinath fell unconscious after he was reportedly beaten on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

It was alleged that the policemen carried him in police vehicle and threw him outside his house. He was taken to the Civil Hospital. He is still under treatment. The DSP Tanda said the statement of the victim had been registered and Chowki in-charge Jagdeep Singh had been sent to the Police Lines.

The victim, Ravinath, said his son Deepak Kumar got married to Kamaljit Kaur around 10 years ago. After his marriage, fighting and quarreling began in the house, which grew so much that Ravinath disinherited Deepak Kumar and his wife Kamaljit Kaur. Ravinath’s wife has died and besides his son Deepak, he had four daughters, three of whom had been married and his younger daughter Mandeep Kaur was still studying. Since it was getting difficult to manage household work because of Mandeep’s education, he called both Deepak and Kamaljeet back home and cancelled their disinheritance.

According to Ravinath, about 10 days ago, a boy who was a distant relative of Deepak Kumar’s wife, came with a minor girl to their house. They both had fled from their homes. Ravinath asked both the boy and girl to leave, but Deepak Kumar and his wife started quarrelling with him over it. The matter grew so intense that Deepak Kumar’s in-laws gathered at his house and together with Deepak, they allegedly thrashed Ravinath. After this, Deepak Kumar’s in-laws got a complaint filed against Ravinath by Deepak.

Chowki in-charge Jagdeep Singh along with his two policemen Gurdeep Singh and Gurdial Singh reached their house at 9.00 pm on the same complaint. It is alleged that all the three policemen were reportedly drunk. Ravinath said his another daughter Amandeep Kaur were athome when the three policemen visited his house.

He alleged that the policemen misbehaved with both the girls. The chowki in-charge took Ravinath to chowki, where he beat him naked in front of Deepak and his in-laws. When Ravinath fell unconscious, the police put him in their vehicle and threw him in front of his house.

Ravinath was taken to the Civil Hospital, Tanda by his daughters. Ravinath is still under treatment in the hospital. Mandeep said she called the chowki in-charge at around 11 pm to ask why he did this to her father, but chowki in-charge allegedly passed lewd remarks to her.

When inquired about this incident, Jagdeep Singh rejected all these accusations and said Ravinath ‘s son Deepak Kumar had lodged a complaint against him, for which Ravinath was called for questioning. When asked about the things said to the girl on the phone, he said he received Ravinath’s daughter’s phone, but he did not remember what he had said to her.

However, Deepak said he had lodged a complaint against his father but he did not know that the police would beat his father so much in front of his eyes. He said after beating Ravinath, the chowki in-charge made him sign the paper on which it was written that his father was absolutely fine and that he was taking him home.

On being enquired about it, DSP Tanda Gurpreet Singh told mediapersons that Jagdeep Singh had been sent to the Police Lines. He said the police had recorded statements of the victim and action will be taken on the basis of his statements.
