Devotees across the world are trying everything to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. They want to utilise the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do something good for society and for their religion.

A city-based professor has made his contribution to the Parkash Utsav of the first Sikh Guru by making a devotional song based on teachings of Guru Nanak Dev.

Rajan Sharma (44), who is teaching Punjabi literature at DAV College, has made the song as a musical tributes on the sidelines of the Parkash Utsav. The song was released worldwide yesterday and within hours of its release on social media, it got thousands of views. Followers of the Sikh guru residing across the world appreciated the song, devoted to Guru Nanak Dev.

Rajan, who has written several songs, poems and write-ups on social issues, said with the help of his fellow professors, Dinesh DK, Anoop Vatts and Lovish Chopra, it took him four months to write and compose the song ‘Mubarakan’, dedicated to the Parkash Utsav.

He said the song motivates people to follow the path of goodwill and depicts the philosophy of the Sikh guru. Popular among the like-minded people as ‘Rajan Moody’, the singer has so far written around 100 songs and poetry based on themes of female-foeticide, drugs, unemployment, climate change, old age homes and other issues.

He said his another devotional song was in the pipeline which would be released by T-Series, music company. Besides, he has also composed a song to mark ‘World Environment Day’. Rajan has been into teaching for the past over a decade. However, he never left his love for music and continued to pursue his passion.
