A city-based professor got his name featured in the Limca Book of Records in the field of human memory by making two records together. Kunwer Rajeev, an associate professor in the Department of Physics, DAV College, made the city proud by achieving the milestone of getting his name into the prestigious volume in the field of memory. He recalled the names of all 543 constituencies of India in a record time. His second record was to recall the exact atomic mass of all the 118 elements of the Periodic Table in less than four and a half minutes.

Kunwer Rajeev, who has been teaching physics for almost three decades, developed his interest in memorising just around three years back, when he read a book called “Moon walking with Einstein”. It is about ancient memorising techniques used by Greeks and Egyptians to memorise their holy books.

Kunwer said, “Learning and memorising is a scientific process and the human brain has a huge storage system. Before going through all the learning techniques and applying them, I had an ordinary mind of limited learning capability. After applying these methods, I developed the skill of learning and now I am able to memorise anything. I can remember the 1,150 contacts in my mobile phone on finger tips and also the complete data of 197 countries.”

He can recall the date of birth of more than 1,200 Indian celebrities, day of the week for the last 650 years,16 types of information for all Indian states and Union Territories, names, population and exact area of all the countries of the world and so on. He claims to be the first Indian to recognise all 545 Lok Sabha MPs from their pictures and recall their names, date of birth, party, state, constituency and the ministers portfolios. You name the state and he recalls the party and constituencies of MPs.

He further said, “Every human being is born with excellent memory, the only difference being that some have a trained memory and others have untrained one. Human brain has two Quintilian bits (two followed by eighteen zeros) of memory but still we are unable to remember things of our day today life. With this much brain capacity, an average human can memorise a complete set of encyclopedia, master three dozen languages and pursue graduation from nearly twelve different universities.”

According to him, the best thing about these techniques is that it takes away the stress of learning and studying.

He has also been conducting training session for students and professionals to improve the memory. His belief is that anybody from 9 to 90 years of age can have this kind of memory. He also says, no one is born with poor memory. After applying learning techniques anyone can sharpen his mind.

Kunwer Rajeev who has also already made it into India Book of Records with three memory records to his credit, has a mission of spreading awareness about the significance of having a great memory. He has also done a few live radio and TV shows. For the benefit of students, he has started developing a website named www.thememorytrainer.com.
