Chanveer Kaur, the golden girl of Jalandhar, who had won a gold medal in the Khelo India School Games in January this year, is now cherishing her meeting with Hima Das, who has been making headlines internationally for becoming the first Indian woman to bag a gold in the IAAF World U-20 Championship in Finland. She had met Das during her training session in Kerala in January this year.

Chanveer (17), who hails from a small village in Bhogpur town and is a student of Guru Nanak Mission Public School, had a dream run and created a new record in the country and secured a gold medal. Kaur had bagged the first position in 200m race and made a new record by completing her race in 24.69 seconds.

Now, she is set to go to the Indian camp that will be held in New Delhi for 21 days. While remembering her meeting with Das, Chanveer said she was always determined and wanted to work hard.

“When I saw her making headlines on the TV, suddenly a girl playing with full concentration, learning every technique with full dedication being taught by trainers came to my mind,” said Kaur, adding that Das had a different kind of charisma.

Chanveer has a regret. She could not click a picture with Das. “I would have clicked a picture, had I known that she would be a star one day, but she is an inspiration, I am going to do hard work just like her and will meet her again,” she said.

After the end of her camp, trials for qualifying to get trained under expert international coaches will be held.

“Those who performed excellently in Khelo India have been called to the camp and I am focusing to clear the trials and play for India in world championships,” Chanveer said.

Her coach Swaran Singh said there were many similarities between the two.

“I have been showing Das’ videos to her,” he said, adding that like Das, Chanveer has the same technique of winning any race.

“Look at Das’ final race, she picked up her pace and speeded up after crossing 60 m, just like that Chanveer had won a gold by speeding up after 60 m,” the coach said.
