City lyricist’s song is ‘most popular’ number of year

JALANDHAR: Jalandhar’s young lyricist Vicky Gill of the ‘Gaal ni kadni’ fame is basking in another achievement as his number has been declared as the most popular song of the year.

Jalandhar’s young lyricist Vicky Gill of the ‘Gaal ni kadni’ fame is basking in another achievement as his number has been declared as the most popular song of the year.

The song has bagged the most popular song award during the Punjabi Music Awards 2018.

Arwinder Singh, alias Vicky Gill (24) while talking to The Tribune said it was his life’s first award.

“This has certainly given me a boost to work with dedication and hard work in future too,” Gill said.

Gill is down to earth and knows the reality well as he says he only wants to focus on his own work.

“Mandi hai har ek talent di, vich kanjariya vang bikda haan, dasso maan kara main kedi gall da, ethe main keda kalla likhdan haan,” Gill said.

Gill’s father, who is working with the Punjab Police, wanted his son to be either join the police or a government job, but Vicky always dreamt of becoming an artiste.

Gill had said the journey to reach this height was certainly not easy.

“When I was in Class VII, I used to go on a bicycle to some of the newspaper offices in a bid to get my poems published. I would not miss any mela as many singers would come there and I used to give them songs written by me,” Gill said, adding that the process went on for years and it was three years ago that his first song was released.

Later, he got a chance to write for Parmish Verma and that is how ‘Gaal Nai Kadni’ happened and then there was no stopping.

Talking about the taste of the audience, Gill said the audience look for package in a song in which there was entertainment along with some message.

As a confident youngster, Gill bets on his different ideas and concepts which he says he gets by observing people.

He said he was too emotional and had penned some songs looking at problems and issues being faced by people, which would be released soon.

“There are many writers in the industry but why people would come to me, only when I try to write and think differently,” signed off Gill.
