Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya’s NCC cadets participated in a cleanliness drive at the campus and paid tributes to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and Kanya Maha Vidyalaya founder Lala Devraj. The campaign was organised under the guidance of Brig IPS Bhalla, Group Commander, Jalandhar Group Headquarters, and Col Narendra Toor, Commanding Officer 2, PbG Bn NCC, Jalandhar. The cadets raised awareness about pollution caused by plastics. Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi said the main aim behind involving younger generation in such social activities was to inculcate in them the feeling of becoming responsible and ideal citizens. She further maintained that during the whole academic session, the NCC cadets always participate actively in various activities such as cleaning of public parks and blood donation camps etc. She said some villages had also been adopted by KMV under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan. The Principal lauded the efforts of Sufalika, NCC in charge, for mentoring and guiding the students.

7-day faculty development programme

A seven-day faculty development programme (FDP) on ‘Guru Siddhta’ commenced on the premises of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya in Jalandhar. Justice NK Sood (retd), Vice-president of DAV College Managing Committee, and Chairman, Local Committee, and Dr Satish Ahuja, Faridabad DAV Institute of Management Principal Director, were the chief guests. In the first session of FDP, Dr Aneesh Dua, Dean, Students’ Welfare, Zoology Department, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, and in the second session, Dr Manisha Sikka, Dietician, Tagore Hospital, Jalandhar, were the chief guests. Principal Prof Ajay Sareen welcomed the chief guests by presenting them planters. Further, Dr Ajay Sareen stressed upon the importance of FDP. In the first session of FDP, Dr Dua discussed about the contemporary requirements in teaching-learning process. In the second session, Dr Sikka presented her views on balanced diet. Dr Anjana Bhatia was the coordinator for the occasion.

Workshop on knitting machine

The PG Department of Fashion Designing of PCM SD College for Women organised a workshop on knitting machine. Gurpreet Singh, an expert from Elex Knitting Machine, demonstrated the working of double-bed flat knitting machine. Students learnt various types of knitting techniques such as plain, rib, two-colour rib knit and cable knit. The workshop proved to be an insightful session as students produced variety of samples and articles such as stole, muffler and prepared a file. Members of the managing committee and Principal Pooja Prashar felicitated the efforts of the head of the department, Sunita Bhalla, and other staff for encouraging students to participate in such constructive workshops.

North zone Kho-Kho championship

The three-day Association of Indian Universities’ (AIU’s) North Zone Inter-university Kho-Kho (Women) Championship-2022 was held at Lovely Professional University (LPU). A total of 14 teams of the zone participated in the event. Displaying the best of running and chasing skills of the game throughout the matches, LPU women players grabbed the winners’ trophy from the clutches of strong considered opposing teams. The Rohtak MDU team was declared the first runner up, Kurukshetra KU the second runner up, whereas the fourth position was bagged by Panjab University. Other zonal championships were scheduled at Bhuvneshwar, Gujarat, and Warangal for east, west and south zones, respectively. Now, the inter-zonal matches will be played among 16 teams, with first four winners of each zone, at the University of Mysore in Karnataka, from July 5 to 7. The championship was inaugurated by LPU Pro-Chancellor Rashmi Mittal. Congratulating the zonal champions, Mittal further encouraged them to emerge as the national winners in their forthcoming matches. Spectators applauded the best chases and running of players, particularly for their pole diving, sudden direction changing, tapping, fake and late ‘kho’, zig-zag movements, avoiding, dodging and more. On the occasion, Guests of Honour from the Kho-Kho Federation of India were its General Secretary MS Tyagi; Co-Convener Referee Board India (ICICF), Sumit Bhatia; and, ex-Treasurer (ICICF) BS Tirath.

Students gain practical knowledge

Students of Eklavya School performed various academic activities. Chemistry teacher Bharti Kalia conducted lab sessions for students of Class IX to XII. Students of Class X gained practical knowledge on chemical reactions. Class XII students performed experiments involving salt analysis. They learnt about cations and anions of unknown salts. Eklavya School Director Seema Handa said most of the materials that occur on Earth, such as wood, coal, minerals, or air, are mixtures of many different and distinct chemical substances. Class IX students performed activities on different types of solutions and with the help of this they gained practical knowledge of these solutions. Principal Komal Arora appreciated senior school students and teachers’ efforts in this regard.

Farewell party for mgmt students

A farewell party “Bon voyage” was organised for final year Management and Commerce students of Apeejay Institute. The students of MBA II greeted their seniors and wished them great luck in all their endeavours. Juniors presented a scintillating dance performance for their seniors. The students had a great time singing, dancing and playing games. They participated in a ramp walk and showed confidence and good communication skills. Boys too impressed the audience with their confidence and positive attitude in the question-answer round. Students danced to their heart’s content to the music. Students also clicked pictures to capture some lovely moments with their teachers and friends. Director Dr Rajesh Bagga also addressed the students and applauded the efforts and dedication of the senior batch. In the 2020-22 batch, over 90 per cent students had been placed in positions of Deputy Manager, Career Development Executives and other managerial positions with various renowned brands. He congratulated the prize winners and congratulated students of junior batch for organising a good party.

Conference of trends in engineering

Lyallpur Khalsa College Technical Campus organised an international conference on “Emerging Trends in Engineering and Management”, in which over 100 faculty members from India, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya and Australia participated and exchanged their ideas and views on the topic. In his keynote speech, Dr RK Gupta (Vice-Chancellor, Agrasen University) highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence, machine learning and social media marketing in current scenario. Dr Upasana Singh (senior lecturer, University of Kawazulu Natal) highlighted the benefits of big data analytics in the field of engineering and management. Dr. Inderpal Singh (HOD, Management) and Dr Pooja Dhand (HOD,CSE) coordinated the conference and presented valedictory report in which they highlighted that over 100 papers were presented depicting the emerging trends in management, computer science, civil engineering, electronics, mechanical applied science, medical sciences and hotel management. Deputy Director Dr RS Deol presented vote of thanks to dignitaries and paper presenters. He stated that in current scenario, curriculum and pedagogy is to be designed as per the need of industry.

Ceremony at elementary school

Hoshiarpur: A felicitation ceremony was organised at Government Elementary School, Jandiala, Block Bullowal. Sham Churasi MLA Dr Ravjot Singh was the chief guest at the event and the function was also attended by Hoshiarpur District Education Officer Er Sanjeev Gautam. The MLA felicitated NRI Jasjit Singh Bajwa from Canada for his contribution in upgrading the school building. Addressing the gathering, Ravjot said the government was committed to develop the education system on modern lines. He appreciated the work done by school teacher Jaswinder Pal and said dedicated teachers are a boon for the society. During this, saplings were planted in the school to keep the environment clean. District Education Officer Gautam said schools had become better with the help of development grants released by the School Education Department and fellow gentlemen especially NRIs. He also appreciated the efforts being made by school teacher Jaswinder for the betterment of school and increasing enrollment. /oc
