College student commits suicide at PG

JALANDHAR: A college student committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan of her Paying guest (PG) accommodation at the Friends Colony.

The deceased was identified as Shikha, a resident of Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh. According to police sources, she had come to Jalandhar to study and had taken the PG accommodation only ten days ago.

According to the PG owner Sunita, she met the deceased in the morning but did not see her after that. She later sent the house maid to her room to call her but despite knocking the door repeatedly, she did not respond.

Later, the PG owner with support of some people broke open the door and saw Shikha hanging from the ceiling fan. She immediately informed the police who rushed to the spot. While the police did not recover any suicide note from her room, it recovered an Aadhaar card from where the deceased could be identified.

The police have registered a case and her parents have been informed about the incident. —TNS
