Punjab BJP media panelist Parminder Mehta has accused state Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring of kowtowing before Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, enabling the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to secure mayoral positions in Amritsar and Phagwara. Speaking to journalists here today, Mehta claimed that the Congress had a clear majority to elect its own mayors in these cities but deliberately chose not to.

According to Mehta, Raja Warring struck a deal with the Punjab CM to avoid corruption charges against him, in return for ensuring AAP’s victory in the municipal elections. He further asserted that Raja Warring also played a key role in helping AAP secure the mayor’s position in Ludhiana by orchestrating defection by the Congress councillors.

“This entire episode exposes a nexus between Raja Warring and Bhagwant Mann. It is now evident that the Congress has become AAP’s ‘B-team’ in Punjab,” Mehta stated. He also accused Congress leaders Warring and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa of acting as puppets in the hands of Punjab government and engaging in political theatrics at the CM’s behest.

These allegations add a new dimension to Punjab’s political landscape, raising questions about the internal strength of the Congress and its stance against AAP.
