Jalandhar, November 15
Congress activists on Friday burnt an effigy of the Central Government before the arrival of Jalandhar Congress MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, who was to take part in a demonstration against the Union Government on the issues of inflation, economic slowdown and farmers’ distress.
The workers held a protest in front of the district administrative complex. Even before the MP was to reach and other MLAs were to join in, the workers set the effigy of the Central government on fire, thus ending the protest quickly.
As the MP arrived, the demonstration was nearly over which made him angry. The MP then pulled up both district Congress chiefs – Baldev Singh Dev (urban) and Sukhwinder Lally (rural)— for not coordinating the programme well. “I was to give my speech and tell the people that we were protesting in for their rights. But lack of coordination has diluted our programme and the message could not reach the public well”, he fumed.
