In a series of coordinated operations carried out on March 3, Phillaur police achieved significant breakthroughs in multiple criminal cases ranging from narcotics trafficking under the NDPS Act to theft and attempt to murder. The arrests were made during routine patrols, naka checking and swift response actions across Jalandhar Rural and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
In the first major seizure, a police team was proceeding towards village Meewal along the Sutlej river embankment when, near the cremation ground at Meewal, they apprehended Sunny Kapoor, resident of village Ganna, near Phillaur. The accused was intercepted while riding splender motorcycle bearing registration number PB-37-J-3885 (Splendor make). Upon search, the police recovered 6 grams of heroin from his possession. A case was registered and the accused was taken into custody for further investigation.
In another development, a theft case was registered on the statement of Pradeep Singh, resident of village Talwandi near Nakodar. The complainant reported that on March 3, he noticed an unknown person attempting to steal electrical wiring from his motorcycle after cutting the wires. Acting promptly, he apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police. The accused was identified as Sonu, originally resident of Ajnala and presently residing in village Chuhar, near Nakodar. Stolen electric wires valued at approximately Rs 2,000 were recovered. The accused was formally arrested.
Continuing its anti-narcotics drive, a police party registered a case against Manpreet Singh alias Pita, resident of Musewal, near Nakodar. During checking operations in village Shankar, police recovered 42 intoxicant tablets from his possession. The accused was arrested and further probe is underway.
In Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, a police team conducted naka checking near village Soeta. While patrolling along the Bist Doab Canal road Chhokran, police noticed two suspicious individuals standing near a turn. On spotting the approaching police vehicle, one individual took out a suspicious object from his pocket and handed it to his associate, who immediately threw it near the roadside before attempting to flee. The police team swiftly apprehended both men. They were identified as Baljinder Singh alias Gullu, resident of village Soeta, and Daljit Singh alias Raju, resident of Usmanpur, near Rahon. After videography through the E-Sakshya App and in the presence of police officials, the discarded transparent polythene envelope was checked and found to contain heroin. The recovered contraband, including the polythene packet, weighed 6.9 grams on an electronic scale. A case under the NDPS Act was registered and investigation initiated.
