Cop among 2 killed, 3 hurt as car rams into truck

Two persons, including a police constable, died while three others suffered serious injuries when the car they were travelling in rammed into a stationary truck near PTU, Kapurthala, around 7 am here today.
The victims were returning from Muzaffarnagar, UP, after attending a friend’s wedding in their car last night.
The deceased have been identified as RCF employee Dilpreet Singh (28) and head constable Manjinder Singh (26). Dilpreet, a native of Bathinda, was the only child of his parents. He got the job in the RCF in place of his father. Manjinder, a head constable in the Punjab Police, was a resident of Saido Bhalana village near RCF. He was deputed at the In-Service Training Centre in Kapurthala.
Those injured have been identified as Manjinder’s brother Taranjeet Singh and their friends Subhash Kumar and Barjinder Singh. All these men were putting up at RCF and, except Dilpreet Singh, were residents of Kapurthala.
The police said the accident took place when the car rammed into a truck parked on the roadside.
ASI Pal Singh, in-charge of Science City police station, said: “It appears that the car driver dosed off, following which the vehicle rammed into the truck. The bodies were handed over to the family members after the post-mortem examination. The injured persons were undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Jalandhar.”
A case under Section 21 of the IPC has been registered against the truck driver for parking his vehicle illegally on the road side. The truck driver is absconding.
