Councillor Jagdish Samrai of Ward No. 78 met Mayor Jagdish Raja, along with MC Commissioner Diprava Lakra, and he also demanded safai karamcharis for his ward.
He said there was a cleanliness issue in his ward and bins filled with garbage were also not been emptied on time. He said a mobile van was also needed in his ward. Samrai has been raising issues of his ward for long.
“In New Guru Nanak Nagar, after laying of sewerage pipes around four years ago, the corporation forgot to build roads. Since years almost all roads are in a bad state which never got repaired or rebuilt. But he is still hopeful that he will be able to fulfill all promises he has made with residents,” Samrai had earlier said.
“Even before I took oath as a councillor, I had given a letter to the authorities that I need at least 30 safai karamcharis for my ward, but no one listened and even acknowledged my requests. Then, I decided to start a protest again the authorities,” Samrai said.
The councillor said even for such a genuine demand of having safai karamchris, he had to protest. How it would be possible to address other important and big issues.
The issues
Eighty per cent of the ward areas sans proper roads. There are no requisite number of sanitation workers. Many roads have not been recarpeted for years.
In New Guru Nanak Nagar, all roads are in a bad shape.
