Couple booked for land fraud in Phagwara

The Phagwara police have registered a case against a couple from Patara village near Jalandhar for allegedly cheating a local resident of over ?11.5 lakh land deal.

According to the complaint lodged by Kuldip Singh Gill, a resident of Maqsooda, the accused, identified as Pyara Singh and his wife Neetu, allegedly offered to sell him 9 kanals and 1 marla located in village Bohani near Phagwara. The complainant told the police that he paid ?3.5 lakh through an online transaction and ?8 lakh cash as advance payment for the property.

Gill further alleged that despite receiving the money, the accused failed to transfer the ownership of the land in his name. He later discovered that while attempting to sell the property, it was found that the mutation had already been recorded in the name of Neetu.

Following the complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code against both accused.
