The world turned upside down for Rana of Chokra village who was celebrating Lohri, for his newly born sister’s son here today when he got to know that his sister had been murdered by her husband in Canada.

After killing his wife, Baljit Kaur (33), he then murdered his mother-in-law, Avtar Kaur (60). Kaur had given birth to a son eight years ago, whose first Lohri was being celebrated here in the village.

The accused Dalwinder Singh has been arrested by the Canadian police.

Rana said his brother-in-law attacked his mother and sister with a sharp-edged weapon. He said he had talked to Dalwinder a day before the incident took place.

“I had not sensed any such activity, and everything was normal when I talked to them,” said Rana.

Rana said his father, Kuldeep Singh, who was also living in Canada, was out of the house. When he came back, he found the bodies of his wife and daughter.

Rana said when they were celebrating here, suddenly they got this news, their lives are shattered now, adding that his father was not in a condition to talk anything in detail.

As per information, Baljit Kaur had gone on a study visa to Canada in 2007 and had got married to Dalwinder Singh of Samrava village in Jalandhar.
