DC exhorts farmers to apply for subsidy on wheat seed by Oct 25

JALANDHAR:The Punjab Government will provide 7,500 quintal of wheat seed on subsidy to farmers of the city for the upcoming wheat season 2018-19.

The Punjab Government will provide 7,500 quintal of wheat seed on subsidy to farmers of the city for the upcoming wheat season 2018-19. The farmers can apply by October 25 with the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department to avail the benefit. 

The  Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma said the amount of subsidy either on 50 per cent cost of the seed or Rs 1,000 per quintal would be transferred directly to the accounts of the farmers. He said at first, the farmers having 2.5-acre land, would be given priority and later it would be provided to the farmers having the land upto five-acre.

The DC said verification of the small and marginal farmers would be conducted through the database of the debt-relief scheme. 

The DC also clarified that ineligible farmer would not be considered at any cost and clear instructions have been issued to the department concerned in this regard. 

He said no application would be considered after the due date. The DC directed the officials of the Agriculture Department to keep a close watch on the sale of seeds to ensure that the farmers could get certified and quality seeds.

Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Arvinder Singh Chinna said forms could be downloaded from the department's website www.agripb.gov.in and must be attested by the sarpanch of village, nambardar and Municipal Councillor.
