Dengue knocks on Jalandhar’s door

With the onset of the early monsoon, dengue has started making its presence felt in the city. Jalandhar has reported 13 dengue cases so far this year, with six cases from urban areas and seven from rural regions.

Amid ongoing larval detection drives, Health Department officials said the dengue situation in the district remained under control. This season, dengue surveys have been conducted in 2,20,448 houses, including 57,970 in urban areas and 1,62,478 in rural areas.

Dengue larvae have been detected in 320 houses so far - 234 in urban areas and 76 in rural areas. Across the district, health teams inspected 5,43,986 containers for larvae, including 1,46,314 in urban areas and 3,97,672 in rural areas. Officials said all larvae found during the surveys were destroyed.

On Thursday alone, dengue surveys were carried out in 3,084 houses, including 932 urban and 2,152 rural households. Larvae were detected in 25 houses - 15 in urban areas and 10 in rural areas. A total of 6,656 containers were checked during the day, of which 2,132 were in urban areas and 4,521 in rural areas.

Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Garg said District Epidemiologist Dr Adityapal Singh, along with dengue control teams, had been conducting door-to-door inspections as part of the ongoing campaign. He urged residents to ensure that water does not stagnate in and around their homes.
