Senior Congress leader and MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal today expressed grave concern over the safety of thousands of Indians stranded in the Gulf region. He is deeply concerned by the rapidly escalating crisis following recent military strikes involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Dhaliwal stated that a significant number of Indians—including a large population of Punjabis—are currently residing in the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Oman for employment, business, and travel. In view of the escalating tensions and reported retaliatory actions across the region, he emphasised that their safety and well-being must be treated as a national priority.

He urged the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to immediately activate all diplomatic channels to ensure the protection of Indian nationals. He called for the urgent establishment of 24/7 emergency helplines, the issuance of real-time travel and safety advisories, and the preparation of comprehensive evacuation plans should the situation deteriorate further.

Balwinder Dhaliwal further appealed to the Government of Punjab to take proactive steps by coordinating closely with the Centre and setting up a dedicated state-level support mechanism to assist the families of those currently in the Gulf countries. He emphasized that clear communication, transparency, and swift action are essential to prevent panic and ensure timely assistance.

“The Government of India must act decisively and responsibly. The safety of our citizens abroad—especially hardworking Punjabis who contribute immensely to both the Indian and Punjabi economies—cannot be compromised,” he stated.
