After a death and dozens of cases of diarrhoea being reported from the Santokhpura and Chugitti localities in the city, cases of diarrhoea in these areas have finally subsided.
The diarrhoea outbreak also claimed a life in Santohkpura. Meanwhile, with the rainwater accumulated due to the recent incessant rains in the city, cases of dengue and malaria are also pouring in.
In the ongoing season so far, as many as six cases of dengue and seven cases of Malaria have been reported in the city.
While three cases were reported a month ago from Muktsar and two from Jalandhar, recently, three more cases have been reported in the city – one from the Golden Avenue and two from Basti Nau. Meanwhile, during the ‘dengue dry day’ drives held in the city so far, as many as 35 persons have been challaned. While after the outbreaks in the Santokhpura and Chugiti localities, the MC carried out cleaning of the area and flushing of sewerage pipes. Chlorinated water was ensured in the localities to prevent an outbreak.
In the dry day drives carried out to ward away dengue larvae in various areas, Health Department teams had also inspected various offices and police stations, besides residential areas in the district.
District Epidemiologist Satish said: “The number of patients from the two localities, which were hit by the outbreak, have greatly subsided in the past few days. While a lot of cases were flowing in from the areas, the MC has carried out flushing of the pipes and cleared it of polluted sewerage water. Now, only one or two cases are being reported from the area. The MC ahas lso conducted ward-wise fogging and spraying in various areas.”
Speaking on the increased, dengue threat as a result of fresh rainfall in the district, Dr Satish said: “We are carrying regular dry day drives and also spreading awareness among residents over the issue. At present, the situation is under control in all areas.”
