Beating disability and battling all odds, Inderjit Kaur Nandan from Hoshiarpur has brought laurels to the district. She has been chosen for the National Award for The Empowerment of Persons with Disability - 2018 (self-employed with disability category).

Deputy Commissioner Isha Kalia has termed the selection of Inderjit as a matter of pride for the district. Congratulating her, the Deputy Commissioner has said Inderjit had emerged as a role model for others as she has achieved a lot in spite of all difficulties.

The DC said Inderjit was also engaged in working for the welfare of divyangs.

She suffered from muscular dystrophy since her childhood and is unable to stand on her legs but she did not lose heart despite her disability.

She said she was the first girl from the state to bag national honours in Sanskrit, besides she took Punjabi literature to a high level. Inderjit, after doing BCom and MA in Economics, is also looking after accounts of many NGOs, besides rendering advice on financial matters. She is also in the forefront in exhorting farmers for engaging in a chemical-free farming and inspiring divyangs to not lose heart in spite of all odds.
