District administration all set for panchayat elections, 70 ROs to receive nominations
The Kapurthala District Administration is all set for the smooth conduct of elections for 546 panchayats as the nomination process will start from September 27. Deputy commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said “All arrangements have been made to conduct the elections of 546 sarpanches and 3180 panches in a free and fair manner.”
He also said that the administration has deputed 70 returning officers (ROs) to receive the nomination papers, which includes 13 for Dhilwan block, 16 for Kapurthala, 15 for Nadala, 14 for Phagwara and 12 for Sultanpur Lodhi. Nominations will take place till October 4, followed by scrutiny of nomination on October 5 and withdrawal on October 7. The voting will take place on October 15 and the counting of votes will be done on the same day. The time for nominations would be from 11am to 3pm.
Talking about the voters, the DC said that 3,91,734 voters will take part in the democratic process at 661 polling stations, comprising 2,00,741 male and 1,90,984 female voters. He added that out of 546 panchayats, 109 have been reserved for SC, 109 for SC women, 164 for General women and 164 for General category candidates. He also said that the BDPO offices in all blocks have been asked to set up help desks to facilitate people for election related matters. Urging the people to participate in large numbers in the election process, the DC said “All eligible voters must perform their duty to strengthen the democracy at the grassroots level.”
