Members of the disabled community, raising concerns over their long-pending demands, have stepped up efforts seeking direct intervention from the state leadership, as the Punjab Divyang Action Committee submitted a memorandum demanding a meeting with the Chief Minister.
The memorandum was handed over to Aam Aadmi Party constituency in-charge Harnur Singh Harji Mann under the leadership of Lakhbir Singh Saini, who is the state president of the committee.
The delegation urged that a meeting be arranged with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, along with the area’s Member of Parliament Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal and former minister Joginder Singh Mann, to address their pressing issues. Speaking after submitting the memorandum, Saini said that the Punjab Divyang Action Committee was constituted specifically to raise the voice of persons with disabilities at the state level and to push for resolution of their pending demands.
He stated that despite holding multiple meetings with cabinet ministers of the current government regarding their concerns, no concrete outcomes have been achieved so far. This has prompted the committee to seek direct dialogue with the Chief Minister, believing that only intervention at the highest level can lead to meaningful resolution.
Saini further said that the committee is demanding a meeting of its 11-member delegation with the Chief Minister at the earliest. He warned that if no time is granted for the meeting, the organisation would be compelled to launch a state-level protest. He emphasised that after a series of inconclusive meetings with ministers, it has become clear that their demands require immediate attention and decisive action from the Chief Minister himself.
Several members of the committee, including Pinky, Jeevan, Joginder Singh Khati, Gurinderjit Singh Dhillon, Bhupinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Jyoti, Manjit Kaur, Manpreet Singh, Rajni, and Davinder Kaur, were present on the occasion.
