In a move aimed at strengthening outreach among minority communities, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Badal, has appointed Dr Wasim Ahmed Khan as president of its Muslim wing for the Phagwara Assembly segment.
The appointment was made under the directions of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. The announcement was formally made by constituency in-charge Ranjit Singh Khurana, who is also a core committee member of the party in Punjab.
Welcoming Dr Khan into the party fold, Khurana expressed confidence that his inclusion would further strengthen the party’s base in the constituency and enhance its connect with all sections of society. He extended an invitation to members of the Muslim community to join the party in larger numbers, assuring them of due respect and representation within the organisation.
Dr Wasim Ahmed Khan, who is associated with Khan Hospital, thanked the party leadership, including Bikram Singh Majithia and Daljit Singh Cheema, along with Khurana and local leaders, for reposing faith in him. He pledged to discharge his responsibilities with dedication and work actively to strengthen the party at the grassroots level in view of the upcoming Assembly elections.
He further stated that expanding the party’s base among the Muslim community and aligning them with the party’s Punjab-centric vision would be among his top priorities.
Several party leaders and workers, including Harvinder Singh Walia, Avtar Singh Bhungarni, Baljit Singh Walia, Bahadur Singh Sangatpur and others, were present on the occasion.
