Drone, tobacco and cigarettes recovered near security tower of Kapurthala Modern Jail
FIR registered under relevant sections, investigation under way
In a significant development, a drone was found near the security tower of Modern Jail Kapurthala on the morning of February 18, raising fresh concerns over attempts to smuggle prohibited items into correctional facilities using aerial devices.
Jail staff on a routine patrol heard a loud sound and noticed suspicious movement above the secured perimeter of the prison complex located on Subhanpur Road at Theh Kanjla. A search operation was initiated during the night, but due to limited visibility, no immediate recovery could be made.
The following morning, a brown-colored ‘Mini 255' drone was found along with a sealed packet taped to it. The officials recovered two packets of tobacco, four packets of cigarettes and rolling paper.
SSP Gaurav Toora, on Friday, said that all recovered items were seized.
Police at Kotwali police station, Kapurthala, have registered an FIR under relevant sections.
SSP Toora said that the drone was sent for forensic examination to determine its origin and trace its operational control.
