ED attaches property worth Rs 50 lakh of drug smuggler

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached property worth Rs 50.33 lakh belonging to alleged drug smuggler Jaswinder Singh alias Jassa Goraya, a resident of village Nijjran in Jalandhar district, under the provisions of Section 68 of the NDPS Act.

According to senior police officials, the action follows an extensive investigation initiated by Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Harvinder Singh Virk and approved by Sarwan Singh Bal, under the supervision of the Special Task Force (STF). The investigation revealed that Jaswinder Singh had accumulated assets through proceeds of illegal drug trade and money laundering activities.

Officials stated that the case came to light when the Jalandhar Rural Police registered an FIR under the NDPS Act and began probing financial transactions linked to the accused.

The investigation confirmed that Goraya had acquired property worth Rs 50,33,750 from profits generated through drug smuggling. Following the financial probe, the ED initiated proceedings under the NDPS Act and ordered the attachment of the illegally acquired property.

The case, registered as FIR No. 6 dated April 6, 2022, at Goraya Police Station, had already led to multiple arrests and the seizure of narcotic substances. The competent authority in New Delhi later reviewed the evidence and confirmed the attachment order, making the property seizure legally binding.

Police officials emphasised that this action demonstrates the government’s continued commitment to dismantling the financial networks that sustain the narcotics trade.
