Eight new Covid cases in Jalandhar

Jalandhar: In continuous rise in the cases of Covid from Jalandhar, as many as eight new cases were reported in the district on Thursday. The district tally reached 63,572. As many as 62,031 persons have recovered from Covid in the district, while the number of active cases in Jalandhar has reached 40. With no new death, the toll remains at 1,501. Of the 18,81,629 samples collected in the district so far, 17,43,942 samples have tested negative. The results of as many as 1,512 samples is still awaited. 

One +ve in Kapurthala: After the Army Public School, Dhilwan, was declared a containment zone owing to as many as 41 Covid positive cases being reported from there, the Kapurthala district on Thursday had a temporary reprieve in Covid cases. Only one case of Covid was reported from the district taking the district tally to 18,908.  Meanwhile, no new death was reported in Kapurthala. The toll remains at 556. TNS

Intoxicants seized, 3 held

Hoshiarpur: The district police have arrested three smugglers, including a woman and recovered intoxicants from them. According to the information, the Model Town police have arrested Kundan Kumar, a resident of New Fatehgarh and recovered 32 grams of intoxicating powder from him. Dasuya police arrested Karan Kumar, a resident of Johlan village, and recovered intoxicating capsules from him. Similarly, Tanda police have arrested Sarbjit Kaur, alias Rodi Baba, and recovered 10 grams of heroin from her. Separate cases under the NDPS Act have been registered against the accused. oc

betting: 1 held with Rs3,200 

Hoshiarpur: The Model Town police have arrested a Kirti Nagar resident Santosh Kumar under the charge of betting. The police have recovered cash worth Rs3,200 put on bet and slips of betting from him. An FIR under the Gambling Act has been lodged against the accused. OC
