Seeing the viability of the Adampur-Mumbai flight which is daily ferrying over 180 passengers from across Doaba to the financial capital of the country, BJP leader and former MP Sushil Rinku met Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan N Kinjarapu in Delhi seeking more air connectivity from here.
The leader demanded the launch of new flights from Adampur Airport to newer destinations. He also submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister in this regard mentioning that so far only two flights were leaving from here daily—Star Air flight to Hindon-Nanded-Bengaluru and Indigo flight to Mumbai and the Doaba’s business and NRI community was seeking more flights. Rinku stated that the Union Minister assured him of positive results soon.
Rinku stated that a request had been made to the Union Minister to direct airline companies to start more initiatives. He informed the Union Minister that several routes from Adampur Airport had been finalised under the Central government’s UDAN scheme. He said that a request had been made to the Union Minister to initiate a commercial flight from Adampur Airport directly to Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. Additionally, a flight from Adampur to Varanasi should be initiated.
Rinku told the minister that Varanasi is the birthplace of Guru Ravidas and that Kabir Chaura Math is also located here. The Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the most important of the 12 Jyotirlingas, is located here, attracting a daily influx of devotees. Furthermore, Varanasi is a major textile hub.
He explained that Varanasi is a business hub, with a significant trade in sarees and suit fabrics. Businessmen from the Doaba region, including Jalandhar, frequently travel there for business. Therefore, a direct flight service from Adampur Airport to Varanasi would be a significant convenience.
Rinku stated that a request had also been made to the minister to provide connecting flights at Adampur Airport in addition to direct flights. He suggested that the Srinagar-Delhi flight could be connected to Adampur. A Srinagar-Adampur-Delhi route should be created to provide convenience to Adampur.
A request has also been made for a flight from Adampur to Jaipur. Rinku explained that Star Airline was supposed to start flights on this route, but for some reason, they couldn’t. If possible, flights should be started by this company, or else by some other company, so that Jalandhar can be directly connected to Jaipur. “Considering my demands, the minister assured me that my demands would be seriously considered”, said Rinku.
