The executive committee of the District Badminton Association (DBA) got dissolved today with immediate effect by the Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma.

The Deputy Commissioner in an order released today stated that there were numerous complaints regarding the delay in holding of the elections for the executive committee for a long period of time and at the same time, some irregularities in its day-to-day working have also been alleged.

“In this context when the official record was perused, it came to notice that the last executive committee of the DBA was constituted in April 2010, whereas according to rules, all office-bearers hold office for three years unless they resign from the office before the expiry of the term,” the order reads.

The order further states the term of the present executive committee has expired since long. Hence, keeping in view transparency, elections for the committee are required to be held without any delay.

The DC, who is also the president of the DBA constituted a 10-member interim committee to conduct elections for its executive committee which will be headed by Jitendra Jorwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development).

Sachin Ratti, a veteran badminton player, while talking to The Tribune, said it was the victory of sports.

Ratti’s entry was banned in the Hansraj Stadium around three years ago owing to internal politics in the DBA.

Sachin, the first Indian player who had defeated Pullela Gopichand, a legend, had then rued that the security guard was given the instructions by the association not to allow the entry of his car to the stadium, hence he was not allowed to enter.

“I have born and brought up here and Hansraj stadium has become my life. I used to practice here for hours and the stadium made me an international player just to see this day that my entry will be prohibited in the stadium,” Ratti had then said.

Ratti since then has been filing many complaints with the Deputy Commissioner against its members.

He said there was an embezzlement of funds of the association and also stated that the association had admitted non-qualified coaches who had not even won the district championship.

“The association is paying an amount of Rs 30,000 to rs 40,000 per month to coaches and the those coaches who are not even qualified were already getting favours from the association members,” he said.
