To streamline the traffic system in the city, besides making it clean, green and pollution-free, Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma has asked officials of the district administration to expedite the process of setting up of the four CNG pumps in the city.

The directions were passed by the DC after a meeting with the General Manager of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Iqbal Siddiqui, who called on the former at his office on Tuesday.

During deliberations with Siddiqui, the DC said the district administration would accord top priority to the clearance of files pertaining to the setting up of the pumps. He said the necessary clearance would be issued promptly by the agencies concerned, so that the process of setting up of the pumps could be initiated.

Sharma said the pumps would be set up on 120 Feet Road, Ladowali Road, national highway near Suchi Pind and in Guru Amardass Nagar.

Assuring support and cooperation to ensure consumer-friendly initiative, the DC said it was economical, safe and a convenient fuel for people.

He said the introduction of this mode of fuel would benefit people by providing them the same in a smooth and hassle-free manner on the one hand, besides paving way for the introduction of environment-friendly mode of public transport that would help in making the city clean, green and pollution-free.

Sharma said under the Smart City project, the district administration would ensure that the public transport system was further strengthened through the introduction of low-floor mini buses and the auto-rickshaws, which would ply in the city and would run only on CNG.

“This is the need of the hour to save the environment and facilitate residents of the city,” he added.
