The family of Prabhleen Kaur (21), who was murdered in Surrey in Canada three weeks ago, brought her body back to her native place at Chitti village here yesterday. Her cremation was held today.
The girl, daughter of Gurdial Singh Matharoo, who had gone to Canada about three years ago for pursuing higher studies, was reportedly killed by a 18-year-old youth whom she had married. The youth had killed himself with the same gun after killing Prabhleen, the Canadian police had said. Their bodies were found in a rented apartment in Surrey. The father of the girl said he knew about their relationship and marriage.
Since the girl could not marry in Surrey because of a minimum age requirement for boy to be 19, they had gone to Calgary for a court marriage.
The boy bought the weapon on the day of the crime. Both worked in a coffee house in Surrey and were planning to visit India in January.
