Farmers to get free high-yielding seeds

Lohian (Jalandhar), August 24:

On the directions of Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Vishavjeet Khanna, accompanied by Secretary, Agriculture, KS Pannu, on Saturday visited the flood-hit areas in the district.

Extending relief to the farmers of the flood-affected villages, Khanna said the state government would provide free high quality seeds of the wheat crop to the farmers for the upcoming Rabi season.

The Additional Chief Secretary (Development) added that the basic motive is to extend a helping hand to the farmers in this hour of crisis. He said, “The farmers will be provided high-yielding varieties of seeds as besides their crops, the floodwater has also destroyed the seeds. The state government is fully sensitive towards the plight of the farmers in the marooned villages and every sort of help will be extended to them. The farmers will not have to make any requisition for it, but the Agriculture Department will provide them the seeds after their loss will be ascertained in special girdawari.”

He said necessary directions had been passed on to the Agriculture Department for ensuring the relief to the farmers. Khanna said he was personally supervising the entire operation to ensure that food growers do not face any problem. the occasion, Pannu also listed the efforts being made by the state government to provide succour to the flood-affected people. — TNS
